The internet is on the verge of fundamentally changing forever.

That is not clickbait, this is as real and as serious it gets, infact youtube themselves just put out a very rare political statment warning of the impact this could be about to have for everyone.

As we speak, prominence laws are being discussed which would **force** social media platforms to prioritize government-picked channels over independent creators…

And in YouTube own words… For creators and media companies that are not chosen, the risk is real.

But these laws wont just effect creators… it will impact YOU the viewer.

Youtube is a place where you get to decide what you want to watch… but if these rules come into effect, that could change.

By pushing some channels to the front of the line through government intervention… other channels get pushed back.

AGAGIN and i gotta stress in youtube OWN WORDS- If governments start picking the winners, independent creators become the losers.

And if you’re wondering why you haven’t heard about this strange law in the news, well that the most concerning part… “legacy media companies” will be the ones benefiting if these rules pass.

Thats why its literally on us, creators and viewers to make sure EVERYONE knows what the hell they’re quietly cooking up…

So let me break down, what this law is, who’s gunna be effected and what we can do about it.

EXTRA INFO- For the UK this law is ALREADY PASSED (Media act 2024) and mandates prominence on smart TV’s.

The discussion is to EXPAND this law beyond TV’s to also encompass social media platforms like- but not limited to- YouTube.

In the EU its similar. The EXPANSION of their Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD) which is in review in 2026.
